Ivhu is the Shona word for earth or clay. Without earth, there is no life and without clay, there is less beauty in the world.

Ivhu consists of a husband and wife duo, Willie and Izette Groenewald. Izette has always been a creative, an artist and a dreamer. As a child, she loved pottery classes but moved into the digital world becoming a graphic designer when she finished school. Willie is more practical, sensible and responsible, having always worked in the finance industry. (A match made in heaven.)

In 2017 Izette decided to go back into pottery as a part-time hobby to create beautiful things that she wanted to see in her own home. Friends and family saw her creations and fell in love with the ceramic pieces she made. It was at that moment that Willie had the brilliant idea of starting Ivhu Handmade Ceramics.

All the pieces contain a little of them both; functionality and strength accompanied by playful quirks, vibrant colours and intricate designs.

Their range of work includes homeware, décor, jewellery and sculptural display pieces.

Ivhu Handmade Ceramics is a Pretoria based company whose mission is to create beautiful, unique and affordable items. Making local and natural products accessible in every way possible.

Every item is inspired by the beauty of nature and represents the coming together of beauty and functionality.
